WHAT YOU'LL DO:
The responsibility of the Account Manager is for all outside sales activities within northern Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana in support of growth for all divisions of Steiner. These key sales activities include account management, servicing of account needs, selling to existing and prospective accounts and lead generation creating new customers.
Essential Functions:
- Sell into existing and prospective large, engineering based professional contractor firms based on a balanced base account packages containing a blend of A, B, C & P defined accounts.
- Sell into existing and prospective OEM and industrial based balanced account packages containing a blend of A, B, C & P defined accounts.
- Make division management aware of existing customers within other Company division categories (i.e., electrical or lighting) appropriate for Lunch & Learn seminar sessions.
- Articulate and manage customer needs and issues to internal management and staff and conversely represent Steiner management opinions professionally and with best outcome.
- Take responsibility/ownership for meeting account needs and issues including returns, switch-outs, inventory, purchasing, credit, pricing, and net profitability.
- Actively pursue sales leads in the generation of new accounts. This includes the use of electronic resources and databases in research.
- Provide competitive intelligence on product lines, pricing, new products, GP levels, customer ownership status and other distributor activities as it becomes available.
- Utilize Microsoft Office software, such as Word, Excel, and the Internet to obtain any pertinent information regarding customer request and in preparation of any Company forms i.e., expense reports and sale call reports. Utilize company sponsored CRM and analytics tools to execute on strategic customer Gap reports to execute on customer growth plans.
- Participate in Steiner and vendor sponsored training, including, but not limited to on site classes, off-site classes, and web-based training to keep up to date on most current product technology.
- Continuously cultivate prospective customers.
- Promote and discuss on site Company events.
- Interact with customers and vendors at Steiner/Vendor sponsored events.
- Support coordination of Internal and External (Supplier) resources to profitably grow assigned customer package.
WHAT WE'LL NEED FROM YOU:
- BS technical or business degree preferred.
- Prefer a minimum of 3+ years outside sales experience.
- Prefer, but not essential, knowledge of electrical wholesale industry.
- Proficient in skills that support remote selling environment.
- Able to work successfully within a firm cultivates and values long term customer relationships.
- Able to communicate effectively with a variety of corporate functional departments.
- Comfortable selling to multiple levels of management.
- Successful with extended sale cycles.
- Familiarity with Customer Relation Management (CRM) database tracking concepts.
- Proficient in searching the internet and using a company intranet.
- Competent with data mining techniques through use of electronic database resources, such as corporate and industry web sites, on-line industry directory resources and SIC search databases (D&B, Sorkins, Hoovers, etc.).
- Familiar with supply chain logistics and issues.
